Laboratory overview
Plant Biophysics/Biochemistry Research Laboratory has been working on cell heterogeneity in plants, focusing on plant water relations and metabolomics. We have combined a cell pressure probe with Orbitrap mass spectrometer to establish a single-cell analytical method, called ‘picolitre pressure-probe electrospray-ionization mass spectrometry (picoPPESI-MS)’. We also work on the related analytical methods, as well as the water status measurement from the practical perspective. By using these techniques, our research is directed toward better understanding the mechanisms of physiological disorders and various plant responses under environmental stress conditions to contribute to the enhancement of crop productivity in the agriculture.
